2022 NFT Year in Review

From insane NFT sales to the crypto crash, 2022 had it all. The parties, the mainstream adoption, and everything in between, here are the biggest NFT events that broke out this past year.

Timeline:

  • January: Bud Light "Noun glasses" Super Bowl Commercial

  • February: Pixelmon art reveal shocks investors

  • March: Bored Ape Yacht Club acquires CryptoPunks IP

  • April: Moonbird launches and in two days racks up $280 million in trading volume

  • May: Otherdeed NFTs explode in the secondary market

  • June: Minecraft announces NFT ban

  • July: Reddit Collectible Avatars hit the NFT space and sell out within 24 hours

  • August: Solana becomes a major player for NFTs

  • September: Ethereum merge reshapes NFT landscape

  • October: Creator Royalty debate rages

  • November: FTX tanks and so do other crypto companies

  • December: Trump sells over $4.5 million in NFTs

Despite some dissapointing events, the quick change in the NFT market, and many projects tanking, there is still one positive which is the wide mainstream adoption of NFTs. To us, that is a huge plus.

With that said, we are looking forward to 2023 and what new adventures it will provide us.

Most Impressive NFT Projects of 2022

Despite a rough year in the NFT world, there were a couple of projects that debuted and made a huge splash. Here are a couple of them:

Moonbirds

Why They Are Here: Lets just say they made a splash and within two days grossed over $280 million in secondary market sales.

Art Gobblers

Why They Are Here: Created by Rick and Morty Co-Creator Justin Roiland, this project was incredibly hyped, at one point reaching a floor price of 25 ETH ($30,000) within the first 24 hours.

Reddit NFTs:

Why They Are Here: This project made huge waves when it launched, selling all the reddit NFTs within 24 hours.

DeGods

Why Are They Here: Although the project announced it will be moving to the Ethereum blockchain, DeGods deserves credit for being one of the first major NFT projects on Solana. 2023 should be a good year for them.

DeGods and Y00ts leaving Solana for Ethereum x Polygon

Two of Solana's most popular NFT projects, Y00ts & DeGods, announced their migration to Ethereum and Polygon on Christmas Day.

I know, shocking news!

Here are the quick facts:

  • Both projects will complete their move from Solana in Q1 of 2023.

  • Y00ts will make its migration to Polygon.

  • $DUST, the utility token for both projects, will be held on both chains.

  • No official word on why they decided to move to Ethereum.

  • Sales for both projects rose following the news.

Rolls Royce entering the NFT Scene

British Car Manufacturer Rolls Royce has launched "The Six Elements' six one-to-one Phantom Extended Series II motor cars that come along with a one-to-one NFT.

Here are the quick facts:

  • The digital collection was recently unveiled at an exclusive event in Dubai.

  • The digital collection features hand-painted artwork by world renowned British artist Sacha Jafri.

  • Each of the cars produced will have its own NFT that could be sold independently.

  • The six cars in the series represent the five universal elements: wind, air, water, earth, and fire.

  • Rolls Royce is the latest car company exploring the Web3 in 2023.

OG E.T. with an NFT sells for $2.6 million

Here is another instance of another successfull NFT artifiact. The original E.T. model was sold alongside a one-off NFT for nearly $2.6 million. You heard that right.

At this point, can we get more Hollywood x Web3 collabs!

Here are the quick facts:

  • The E.T. model was auctioned off in a Hollywood-themed event, Juliensauction, for $2.6 million.

  • The model along with a one-off NFT was sold.

  • During this auction, other Hollywood memorabilia were showcased, however the E.T. model along with the digital asset stole the show.

  • It is also worth mentioning that it was the only artifact at the auction that had its own NFT.

  • Maybe this was the reason for the high amount it sold for, or at least we like to think so :)
