Inscription # Wars

For those living under a rock, there is currently an ongoing debate that has divided the Bitcoin Ordinals community.

So how did we get here, lets explain 👇

When creating an ordinal you are assigned an inscription #. This number was suppose to be based on the order in which the inscription was created. However, there was only one issue, Cursed inscriptions. There were specific ordinals that were given a negative inscription number which presented an issue for indexers. Now, Casey, founder of the protocol opened up the discusion for rearranging these inscriptions numbers so that they reflect the true ordering of events. And, oh boy, did the Ordinals community react. Lets recap👇

Here are the quick facts:

  • Casey introduced the discussion on how to solve the issue with the inscription #’s, proposing rearranging the inscription numbers

  • As a result of this, there was aninsane amount of pushback from the community, many of which have build projects around inscription #’s

  • Danny, who heads OnChainMonkeys, proposed one solution which would pay tribute the ordinal numbers that currently exist, but will fix the inscription issue in the future. This seems to be the best middle ground approach

  • Overloaded Recursive Ordinals are parent-child Ordinals that use functional or object-based overloading to activate behaviors like animation within the child Ordinal but the child is unable to activate that behavior w/o their parent

  • Some use cases for this could be video games, music, and animations

Bitcoin Ordinals Where Bitcoin Atoms
